Lunch, and what it travels in
The box decides whether lunch gets made at all. Five, for five different lunches.
Making lunch is a habit that fails for logistical reasons rather than culinary ones. It leaks, it is cold by one o'clock, or the box is in the dishwasher. Five boxes, for five different versions of the problem.
The starting point is smaller than people expect. A bento box with a strap holds a real lunch, closes with one hand and stays shut in a bag, which is the whole specification. The strap is not styling: it is what stops the lid opening under a laptop.

Hot food is a different container entirely. A vacuum thermo container is for soup, rice and anything that stops being worth eating cold, and a litre is the size where it holds lunch rather than a taste of it. This is the one that turns leftovers into a plan.

Then the thing nobody buys until the second leak. An insulated cooler tote is the layer between the box and everything else in the bag, and it is the reason a laptop and a lunch can travel together. It also keeps things cold for a morning, which the box alone does not.

For anybody who has already established the habit, the step up is material. An insulated stainless box does not stain, does not hold the smell of last week, and survives being dropped on a station platform. Plastic is fine until it is a year old, which is roughly when most lunch habits are abandoned.

And the version with a different user. A lunchbox for a smaller person has to open without help, which is a harder engineering problem than it sounds and the reason the good ones cost more than the character on the lid would suggest.

Keeping a wish list on Amazon, and elsewhereA wish list is less a way of asking for presents than a way of not forgetting what you liked. Amazon has one, most shops have one, and you can bring them together in a single list here.
