The one with the camera
For whoever brings the camera and leaves the phone in a pocket. The gift is rarely the camera.
Buying a camera for somebody who takes photographs is the one thing not to do. They have chosen a system, they have reasons, and the reasons are longer than this page.
Everything else is open, and most of it is genuinely wanted. A camera bag is the thing that gets replaced most often and bought least happily, because the one they own is either too small for the day or too large for the walk.
A tripod sits in the same category. Anybody past the first year has discovered that half the pictures they want need one, and that the one they own is the cheap one they bought before they knew that.
Then the small consumable half, which is where this persona is easiest. A memory card is never refused. A camera strap is a thing people use daily for years without ever choosing.
Below, from the bag down to the small things. The small things travel.
