A particular feature of this history is the way in which every type of costume and costume accessory (shoes, hats, gloves) is shown being worn by groups of figures. Not only are the rich ladies and gentlemen of any given period illustrated, but also the merchants, the clerics, the soldiery, the seamen, the peasants and the poor of the period. There are 200 pages of plates including 120 in colour. On each pages there are 3 or 4 groups of between 8 and 10 figures as described above.
