Museu Picasso

The Picasso museum of Barcelona is a clear testimony to the links that bound Pablo Picasso to the city of Barcelona, where he consolidated his sound academic training and experienced the artistic effervescence that for him opened the doors to modernity. The Museum possesses the most important and exhaustive collection of the works produced by Picasso as a young art student and artist in training. For much of this period Picasso lived in Barcelona. Outstanding too are the important set of works executed for his collaboration in 1917 with Diaghilev’s Russian Ballet, and the magnificent paintings in the Las Meninas series, based on the work by Velázquez. The Picasso Museum occupies three medieval palaces, the Aguilar, the Baró de Castellet and the Meca, which have been restored several times over the centuries.
