The Fig Tree's Secret

Sofia Was Going to Cut the Old Fig Tree DownWhen Sofia inherits her grandmother's Mediterranean cottage, she makes a renovation list. New kitchen. New roof. And that gnarled old fig tree in the garden has to go. She has already called the landscaper. The chainsaw is on.Then old Mr. Costas comes running through the gate, waving his cane. "Wait!" he calls. And he begins to tell her what the tree has watched - three hundred years of harvests, festivals, and recipes Sofia's grandmother kept in her handwriting.A picture book about the trees and people we almost lose by going too fast. Children meet a grandmother through the village that loved her, learn that some inheritances are made of stories, and discover that the oldest things in a garden are often the ones we need most.Perfect for: intergenerational reading, conversations about heritage, classroom units on community and food traditions, ages 4 to 8.From the Eva Gallo Collection.
