Fairy Tales for Adults 32 - Where the Yuzu Light Lingers

Han Seojin has spent her life working with light. As a stage lighting designer and university lecturer, she knows how to make a face emerge from darkness, how to draw the audience's attention to a single corner of a stage, and how much can be hidden simply by turning a light away. Then, one winter morning, the right edge of her vision begins to disappear. A diagnosis reveals a brain tumor pressing against her optic nerve. Surgery may help, but it may also leave her with permanent damage. For the first time, Seojin is forced to confront a question she has always been better at avoiding: what kind of life does she want when she can no longer see everything clearly? As she prepares for surgery, the familiar world around her begins to take on new meaning. Her father's old bookstore. A small neighborhood shop about to close. A cup of warm yuzu tea. A former classmate returning from years abroad. A young patient who refuses to smile simply because everyone expects her to. When Seojin is asked to design the lighting for a hospital charity performance called The People Still Smiling, the assignment seems simple: make everything bright, beautiful, and hopeful. But Seojin has begun to understand that light is not the same thing as hope. Sometimes darkness deserves a place, too. Quiet, intimate, and deeply visual, Where the Yuzu Light Lingers is a literary story about sight and memory, endings and beginnings, and the spaces we learn to leave untouched. A story for readers who love understated emotional fiction, human-scale drama, and the quiet beauty of ordinary lives.
