Gears of the Forgotten Court

An ancient clockwork-fae dynasty wakes after three centuries of sleep — and one of its monarchs is murdered inside a room no one could have entered. Elara Vance gave her whole life to a dynasty everyone else called a myth. When the Aurelian Court — fae of glamour and gears, ruled by mechanism and enchantment fused — wakes from its long dormancy, she is the one human scholar who can still read its forgotten laws. The Court names her Princess-Speaker of the Old Law and sets her among its waking monarchs. Three days later, one of them is dead. Queen Sabreine is killed inside a chamber sealed twice over: by a clockwork lock that records every entry, and by a glamour-seal only royal blood can pass. Both are found intact. No one entered. No one left. And the killing used both fae glamour and mechanical precision at once — the mark, the Court whispers, of a hybrid assassin with royal blood. As the Court seizes the obvious suspect, Elara refuses the easy answer and follows the impossible crime down into the dynasty's own buried history: a founding erasure, a law rewritten, and makers cast out and buried alive beneath their own palace. A fair-play locked-room mystery wrapped in gothic-baroque fantasy, where the solution turns on the nature of glamour and gears both, and where the deepest weapon is not force but the law itself — read truly, at last, against those who erased it. For readers who want the impossible-crime puzzle and the moral reckoning to be one and the same descent.
