Burnt earth

Slim Cassidy needs to find Ernesto Jaramillo before he is disappeared by the criminal/immigration system, a private prison, and the mysterious military contractor Burnt Earth. After a woman was killed in the southern New Mexico desert, the murder was pinned on Jaramillo. When Jaramillo is scheduled for deportation instead of prosecution, Cassidy becomes suspicious that somebody doesn’t want the crime investigated. The stakes are much higher than she ever imagined. Burnt Earth is an “addictive legal thriller,” getting us inside the heads of a capital defense team while they pick a jury, and defend an accused murderer. Throughout the book, the driving question is, “Who gets to be American?” as Slim and crew embark on a rollercoaster conspiracy originating in the highest branches of the one of the corporations controlling the American government.
