(Da li si me volela?) by Srbo Galic is a love story set in Belgrade during the turbulent 1990s, a time when war profoundly reshaped everyday life, relationships, and the plans of an entire young generation. At the heart of the novel are Hristijan, a young man from Bosnia, and Lola from Serbia, whose paths cross in a Belgrade student residence. As their relationship develops into love, Hristijan faces an increasingly difficult decision: should he remain in Belgrade and try to build a life with Lola, or leave to fight in the war? Torn between love, a sense of duty, and attachment to his homeland, he must choose in circumstances where no decision comes without consequences. Did You Love Me? is a novel about love and war, belonging and responsibility, but above all about the choices that shape human lives-and the traces those choices leave long after the time in which they were made has passed.
