Massimo Bartolini - Studio Matters +1

Studio Matters +1 is an artist’s book devoted to the work of Italian artist Massimo Bartolini, whose practice encompasses installations, sculpture, video and photography. The publication focuses on a selection of Bartolini’s smaller sculptural objects as well as two large, site-specific installation works. His art is characterised by experimentation and transformation, often altering the viewer’s experience of a space while making the process behind the work part of the artistic experience. The book was published in connection with two complementary exhibitions in Edinburgh and Ghent. Through numerous colour and black-and-white illustrations, it presents Bartolini’s works and provides insight into his approach to materials, space and artistic experimentation. An interview with Bartolini by Fiona Bradley offers a more personal perspective on his artistic practice, ideas and working methods. The publication therefore combines extensive visual documentation with critical and reflective material about the artist and his work. Studio Matters +1 is particularly relevant to readers interested in contemporary installation art, sculpture and experimental artistic practices, and provides an introduction to an important period in Massimo Bartolini’s work.
