Then the fine print begins to move. Nia's signing bonus is scheduled to release after her first completed plate appearance. A second notice claims that her first official at-bat will activate an old development debt assigned to a struggling player residence. The man caught between the two claims is Miles Kincaid-former catcher, housing director, professional caretaker, and the last person Nia should want while money, loyalty, and survival are all under review. Their attraction was already dangerous before they discovered that the same performance may have been promised to two different institutions. Now Nia must protect her season, expose the hidden guarantee, and decide who gets to profit from the first swing of her professional future.
