Javanese Batik Designs From Metal Stamps

"Javanese Batik Designs From Metal Stamps" is a detailed visual survey and scholarly examination of the intricate patterns used in traditional Indonesian textile art. Focusing specifically on the cap-the hand-carved copper stamp used to apply wax during the batik process-this work captures the sophisticated geometric and floral motifs that define Javanese culture. The work serves as an essential reference for designers, artists, and historians interested in the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and technical application. Through a series of plates and descriptive analysis, Albert Buell Lewis provides insight into the technical execution and aesthetic variety of these traditional designs. From the rhythmic repetition of geometric patterns to the delicate flora and fauna depictions, the collection showcases the artistic diversity found in the batik industry of the early 20th century. This volume highlights the artistic excellence of Javanese artisans and remains a valuable resource for anyone studying textile history, ethnic design, or the evolution of printmaking techniques in Southeast Asia. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
