Shahid Ahmad Dehlvi (1906-1967) remains one of Urdu's most cherished prose stylists, celebrated for his evocative writings on Delhi's language, culture, and vanishing world. Born in Delhi on 22 May 1906, he was the grandson of Deputy Nazir Ahmad and inherited a deep literary sensibility. In 1930, he launched the influential monthly Saqi from Delhi, later continuing its publication from Karachi after Partition, where it became a beacon for preserving Shahjahanabad's cultural heritage. A trained musician associated with Radio Pakistan, Dehlvi also wrote witty caricatures and poignant essays on Delhi's social life, music, and the trauma of 1947. His major works include Dehli ki Bipta, Ujra Dayar, Ganjaneea-e-Gauhar, Bazme Hamnafasan, and Taq-e-Nisian.
