Maurice Ravel – Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D Major

Ravel’s bold and visionary concerto — complete conductor’s score. Composed between 1929 and 1930 and premiered in January 1932 by pianist Paul Wittgenstein with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D Major is one of the most remarkable works ever written for piano and orchestra. Commissioned by Wittgenstein after losing his right arm in World War I, the concerto is a masterful response to a unique challenge: creating the richness and complexity of a two-handed piano texture using only the left hand. Ravel’s music is striking for its dark, brooding orchestral colors and its ingenious piano writing, which exploits the full expressive and technical potential of a single hand. The work unfolds as a single continuous movement, beginning with an ominous contrabassoon solo and evolving through passages of jazzy syncopation, dramatic cadenzas, and dazzling virtuosity, before culminating in a triumphant and powerful conclusion. This complete orchestral score is ideal for conductors, professional orchestras, advanced pianists, and music scholars interested in Ravel’s orchestration and pianistic innovation. Its clear, modern engraving makes it perfect for performance preparation, score study, or orchestration analysis. Full conductor’s score — faithful to Ravel’s original orchestration. Single-movement masterpiece for piano (left hand) and orchestra. Essential for conductors, orchestras, advanced pianists, and conservatories. A unique exploration of texture, color, and pianistic invention. High-quality engraving for study, rehearsal, and professional performance. Add this legendary concerto to your conducting library or study collection and experience Ravel’s unmatched ingenuity and orchestral brilliance.
