Motion To Survive Until Sunrise - A Night-Shift Medical Suspense Short Story

Twenty-two patients. One locked ward. And a stranger who says you smell like family. Wren is a night-shift agency nurse with one rule: she never signs anything she has not read. She takes the overnight contract at Harlow Memorial's Wellness Annex V for three things only: the pay, the quiet, and the promise that nobody there will remember her name. Eight weeks. No charts to fix. No one to blame. No trouble. She counts to keep her hands steady. Eleven steps to the east door. Twenty-five beds. Twenty-two names. The numbers are supposed to calm her. They do not add up. Dawn is coming. Something is waiting at the east gate, a pen is about to be put in her hand, and every patient on Ward V is watching to see what she will do. Wren has never signed a page she did not read. So why does every page on this ward already have her name on it?
