Mud Puddle Kingdom

This story illustrates a different piece of Rene Girard's thinking about mimetic desire than some of the earlier stories; the role that manufactured scarcity plays in escalating rivalry. The mud wallow was never actually scarce. There was enough mud for every pig to spread out comfortably from the very beginning. The "shortage" only appeared the moment Wilbur claimed a corner as his own.
