Tell Us About Siva

The Great God Siva never gets any rest. Although he is Lord of Yoga, the Lord of the Indrawn State, why do gods, mortals, and demons constantly demand his attention? Destroy the demons; marry the goddess; punish the flower thief; cut off your son ‘s head; seduce the young women in the forest; interrogate the soul of a dead king at the funeral grounds. Above all, remember to extol his greatness through hymns that shower you with blessings. His contradictory nature makes him a suitable deity for everyone’s needs. The Hindus know the lives of their gods in intimate detail and one of the joys they get from hearing the stories is the infinite variety in retelling them. David Elyha has rendered the suspicion, ambition, arrogance, greed, lust, love of the Gods and Demons as if he knows them personally. He writes with a satirical charm that inspires devotion to the Hindu gods. The five stories and play in “Tell Us About Siva” have their seed in The Hindu Puranas, an enormous collection of ritual and myth. They are here told with the vividness of contemporary fiction and drama.
