As We Drifted / ALS Wir Dahin Trieben

Poetry. California Interest. Translated by Mitch Cohen and Wolfgang Heyder. Love, family, the random dangerousness and injustice of the world, travels in foreign countries, languages, and dealings with the sea, all viewed from a stance ranging from elegy to sardonic humor, characterize the poetry of Robert Brandts; Dear 732 is a imaginary sequence of poems--an imaginary Westerner trying to carry out an imaginary work project in the jungle of Africa; Brandts himself has lived and taught English in Kenya.
