The Lawudo Lama

In the shadow of the world's highest mountain live the Sherpas of Nepal. The Lawudo Lama reveals fascinating details of Sherpa life through the stories of two great lamas: Kunga Yeshe (1865-1946), a revered lay yogi of the Nyingma tradition, and his reincarnation, Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, a monk of the Gelug lineage and the head of a Buddhist organization with more than one hundred affiliate centers worldwide. Lama Zopa's first-person account of his life provides an intriguing window into the dramatic changes modernity has brought to the Everest region. Taken together, the stories in The Lawudo Lama offer an unprecedented glimpse into a century of tradition and change in the Himalayan world.
