Between Two Worlds

Between Two Worlds - A Syrian Odyssey is a poignant memoir of a young woman's migration from the gender-apartheid culture of Assad's Syria to the UK. It covers the whole of her life so far, from childhood and school through the pressures that forced her to migrate and her search for sanctuary and belonging in England.Douna Haj Ahmed said that she writes in order to walk through fear and out of it; to face her nightmares and deny them power; to reclaim the years in which she was silenced; and so that others who carry similar weights might recognise their own strength and feel less alone.
