in lieu of sorrow, november goes painfully sweet

Shafa's first collection; in lieu of sorrow, november goes painfully sweet, is a profound pieces of prose poetry mapping the bittersweet transition from teenage naivety to the sharp awareness of adulthood. Written with a cinematic and deeply reflective voice, this book dissects emotional growth, heartbreak, and the turbulent journey toward self-peace across four distinct acts: Act I: Season of Daffodils – This chapter is a bloomed spring; the silent pining, the pain of late realization and watching someone slip away before you knew what they meant to you. The daffodils symbolize new beginnings and hope, and it became a curator of the hush of first heartbreaks at the age of seventeen. Act II: The Epitome of Everything – Someone once seemed like everything: radiant, inspiring, beautiful. An exploration of intense adoration for some people who seems to unflawed, which slowly shifts into bitter clarity as reality reveals their true perception. Act III: The 19th Love Theory – A sharper, more candid dive into the complex collisions of three heartbeats, youthful emotion, resentment, sarcasm, and the realities of human relationships. Act IV: The Nastenka in Me – The final anatomy of the heart. Pulling inspiration from the melancholy of classic longing Dostoevsky's White Nights, this closing act is a mature reckoning. Someone still can love silently, and sometimes not at all. Perfect for anyone who has ever loved a potential, and ultimately found pieces of themselves within the lines of poetry.
