The Principal 2.0

A BREAKTHROUGH UPDATE TO THE BESTSELLER ON MAXIMIZING SCHOOLWIDE POTENTIAL IN THE ROLE OF PRINCIPAL For decades Michael Fullan has written influentially about how the world of education is changing and transforming, thanks to new technology, formalized achievement standards, and shifting social expectations. The Principal is his bestselling examination of how and why the principal’s role itself must change. In this new edition, Fullan returns with an update on the latest research related to school leadership and new material to support the core concepts that have made the book so renowned. But what should the principal do to maximize student achievement? In this book, Fullan shows how principals have been boxed into a narrow role that undercuts their ability to develop the whole school. He sheds light on how, in times of crisis, it’s all too easy for principals to do the wrong thing—to take actions that are ineffective or even counterproductive. Using case examples, Fullan shows how principals can develop “the internal system” of the school with teachers, students, and parents in order to be effective inside the school, while building relations with the district, and with outside partners. “Fullan is a master of unearthing the nuances of leadership that help create success. This book and the narratives within highlight successful strategies for system transformation based on the critical role of the principal.” —JORDAN TINNEY, Retired Superintendent, Surrey School District, British Columbia “This book provides essential guidance for principals on how to navigate change and thrive at a time when school leadership has never been more critical.” —AMANDA DATNOW, Chancellor’s Associates Endowed Chair and Professor, Education Studies, Associate Dean and Faculty Equity…
