A Year's Midnight

Unable to get neighbour Tessa's haunting neckline off his mind, George staggers through drinks, desire and despair as he tries to avoid a poltergeist and sinister boyhood memories. A chorus of protective and ultimately heroic dogs offers a running commentary on George's mental unravelling, typical of the surreal humour which runs through the novel. But by the time we reach its explosive climax, the masterful O'Driscoll has left us weighing up the moral enigma which lies at the heart of this poetic story of a man 'driven sane' by love and nature. This winter's tale makes an ideal Christmas gift.
