Over dit product
What do immigrants carry with them when they leave one homeland in search of another? Sometimes little more than a suitcase, memories they cannot leave behind, and the hope that their children may one day have a better life. At times humorous, at times deeply moving, Những Câu Chuyện Di Dân (Stories of Immigration) follows the journeys of immigrants across generations: a Canadian physicist searching Winnipeg for fish sauce for a refugee he has yet to meet; Filipino workers offering twenty-four dollars to a Vietnamese newcomer on her first day at work; a mother quietly devoting her life to her children and grandchildren; and a once-impoverished family, decades later, celebrating a new generation beneath the sun of Bali. From these small stories emerges a larger question: What does it truly mean to belong? Perhaps immigrants need not lose their old colors to become part of a new homeland, just as the society receiving them cannot remain entirely unchanged. In the end, immigration is more than crossing a border. It is a journey through time and memory, shaped by kindness and by seeds whose flowers may not appear until generations later.
