Yann Lecun

What happens when machines stop following instructions and start learning for themselves? What happens when neural networks become capable of recognizing patterns, predicting outcomes, reasoning through problems, and performing tasks that once required human intelligence? Yann LeCun's pioneering work in neural networks and deep learning helped transform artificial intelligence from a promising research field into one of the most powerful technologies of the modern era. His ideas have influenced how machines recognize images, learn from data, and move toward more flexible forms of intelligence. This book explores that journey and examines what it could mean for the future of humanity. From the early challenges of computer vision to the rise of convolutional neural networks, readers will discover how artificial neurons, layers, weights, backpropagation, and training data work together to create systems capable of learning complex patterns. The book also explores why machines can outperform humans in certain tasks while still struggling with something as ordinary as common sense. Beyond today's AI, the discussion moves toward a more ambitious machine mind built around world models, self-supervised learning, memory, prediction, planning, and autonomous learning. These ideas could help machines move beyond simply processing information toward understanding environments, anticipating consequences, and learning continuously from experience. But greater intelligence brings greater responsibility. As AI systems become more powerful, humanity must confront difficult questions about employment, creativity, scientific discovery, privacy, control, safety, and the future relationship between people and machines. Will humans remain firmly in control? Will intelligent machines become…
