Savour the Fruits of Mathematics

The book describes engineering and system problems such as space vehicle trajectory, motor car suspensions, speed boat acceleration, quality control in manufacturing, forces acting upon airoplanes and television systems, each relating to a different branch of mathematics. An example mathematics problem solution is then included for each scenario. The book has 240 pages, and includes over 60 pictures and graphs. An 18 page glossary of engineering and mathematics terms is included. The book is aimed primarily at pre GCSE students at the stage of deciding which subjects to take at A-Level, and also teachers of STEM subjects. A-Level students of mathematics and physics may also find the book helpful in revealing real life applications of mathematics that could encourage them to aspire to become graduate engineers. Parents of pupils deciding which subjects to study at A-Level will also find the book informative and readableEndorsements:“The book provides the reader with a greater awareness of the importance of mathematics in engineering by using a rich variety of examples and detailing how and why mathematics is used in practical engineering contexts”(Tom Greene, Team Leader Mathematics, The JCB Academy)“I was fortunate to receive a ‘good’ grammar school education, but initially I struggled with Mathematics because, even as a prospective engineer, it seemed rather abstract compared with the other subjects on offer. Then, in the third year, we had a new maths teacher known affectionately as ‘Chalky’ Robinshaw. He lifted the veil by being able to relate the subject to practical situations with which I could identify. I see this book in the same context. It takes the mystery and fear out of the figures and enables the reader to identify with their applications. It will be a…
