Furniture From Curaçao, Aruba And Bonair

What makes Antillean furniture so special? Of what kind of wood is it made? What styles inspired the local cabinet-makers? Who were they? Furniture from Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire deals comprehensively with these questions. The book describes historical developments and the place of the local furniture against that background. It traces the situation, starting with the arrival of the first Hollanders in 1634, through to the middle of the 20th century. Apart from the many photographs, the publication also contains vignettes of the furniture-makers' lives, as told by descendants and relatives.
