Winter of the Wendigo

Anna Merritt, a young doctor, returns to her remote Cree village after her father's death, only to uncover an unsettling legacy of hunger, grief, and ancient lore. As winter deepens and provisions dwindle, stories of the Wendigo—an insatiable cannibal spirit born of desperation—begin to take on terrifying reality. Villagers vanish, bones are found in the snow, and whispers in the pines promise salvation through violence. Pulled between her scientific training and the Indigenous beliefs she turned away from, Anna must navigate a collapsing community, confront secrets buried in her father's diaries, and ally with elders who guard traditions that may be the only hope against the darkness. Interweaving historical accounts of the Swift Runner murders and colonial mission diaries with a contemporary narrative, "Winter of the Wendigo" is a haunting exploration of cultural survival, spiritual resilience, and the line between myth and madness. Deepen & dezzusfilms craft an emotionally rich, character-driven story that brings the Wendigo myth into stark, chilling focus, asking whether the real horror lies in supernatural forces or in the human heart.
