Developmental problems in child autism affect, early on and in a marked way, both cognition and communication. This study, conducted from a developmental perspective, presents an original summary of the most recent work on these two essential dimensions in the atypical development of autistic children by going into both elementary processes and early appearance and more elaborate and late-arriving forms. The work does not just concern itself with that which is dysfunctional but also with that which functions and develops in the cognitive and social abilities of these children: taking into account their individual development and the resources they can rely on to further their development.
