The aptitude test used to select elevator apprentices is one hundred multiple-choice questions on paper, and the published breakdown is thirty-five reading comprehension, thirty-five mechanical comprehension and thirty mathematics.Mechanical comprehension really is on this exam. That is worth stating plainly, because advice written for other trades' entrance tests does not carry across, and a candidate who skips a third of the paper on someone else's say-so has a problem no amount of arithmetic practice will fix.The format matters as much as the content. The official maths samples give five options, and the fifth is "No answer" - so the discipline is to work the problem and then check whether your result is even on the list. The official mechanical samples ask you to compare two arrangements and say which is faster, or steadier, or which way something turns.
