Comprehensible Greek 1 - Ὁ ἐπὶ Τροίαν Πόλεμος (Ho epi Troian Polemos)

At a celebration on Mount Olympus, a golden apple marked “for the most beautiful” appears without warning—setting off a bitter rivalry among Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. What begins as a divine dispute soon spills into the human world, drawing Paris, Helen, Menelaus, Agamemnon, Hector, and Achilles into the legendary ten-year war between Greece and Troy. Adapted and translated into Ancient Greek by Seumas Macdonald—one of the world’s leading teachers of communicative and comprehensible Ancient Greek—this story is based on Bellum Troianum: A Latin Novella (Storybase Books, 2021) by Brian Gronewoller. Designed for novice and intermediate readers, it offers a clear and engaging introduction to the epic traditions of Homer and Vergil.
