Nightwing: Year One

Dick Grayson steps out of the shadow of the Bat—and into the legend he was meant to become. Nightwing: Year One captures the moment a young hero discovers the courage to claim his own name. Cast out by Batman and unsure where he fits in a world that’s suddenly too big and too quiet, Dick Grayson sets out on a search for identity that spans the DC Universe. Writers Chuck Dixon (Robin, Birds of Prey) and Scott Beatty (Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Year One) chronicle his journey from lost partner to self-made hero as he seeks counsel from Superman, confronts the trauma of the Flying Graysons, and begins to understand that being a hero is something Bruce can neither grant nor revoke. Artist Scott McDaniel (Daredevil, Batman) brings kinetic motion and bold emotional clarity to Dick’s transformation, capturing the raw vulnerability, explosive acrobatics, and icon-forging moments that define the birth of Nightwing. Together, this team delivers the definitive coming-of-age story of DC’s first Robin—one that reshapes his past, secures his future, and cements why the world needs Nightwing. Collects Nightwing #101–106.
