Amlet

Following his successful adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello (Otelo - 2003), Jean-Frantz Gation tackles the inexhaustible subtleties of Hamlet (Amlet: Trajedi youn nonm ki pa ka deside-l). The tragedy that took place centuries ago, relating the predicament of the unfortunate hero grappling with an exceptional destiny, unfolds as dreadfully in the Caribbean island of present-day Haiti as it did in the dark ages of Denmark. This is Amlet's world as he prepares, like any progeny of any well-to-do Haitian family, to enjoy his youth. But when the ghost of his father summons him to avenge his murder, Amlet finds himself torn between duty and scruples. The ensuing decision will either define or destroy him. Amlet: Trajedi youn nonm ki pa ka deside-l is a down-to-earth portrayal of revenge and deception, overflowing with the hard facts of Haitian life: corruption, lies, and injustice. Intensely realistic. Full of twists and turns. An authentic portrayal of Haitian society with its superstitions, beliefs, and cultural conflicts. Amlet: Trajedi youn nonm ki pa ka deside-l keeps readers turning pages.
